How to install your web pages on the web site.

If you don't want to write your own HTML files, try the auto-creation interface.

Requirements for files:

  • text must be in HTML code
  • The web server is a case sensitive machine. This means that 'index.html' and 'INDEX.HTML' are different files. Make sure you name your files with the same capitalization as used in the '<href>' and '<img>' statements in your .html files.
  • your main/default page should be named 'index.html'
  • file name: extensions should be '.htm' or '.html'
  • graphics files should be in '.jpg' or '.gif' format

Putting your pages on the server:

  1. get FTP software [getting software]
  2. connect to the FTP site 'homepage.nauvoo.net' [details if you need them]
  3. login as your username
  4. use your regular password
  5. change to the directory 'public_html'
  6. use FTP 'put' command to send your files [details if you need them]
  7. The FTP software should automatically determine the type of transfer (ASCII/text, binary, etc.); occasionally you will need to specify the type of transfer.
    • text files (including .html files): transfer as 'TEXT' or 'ASCII' or 'raw data'
    • graphics files: transfer as 'Binary' or 'raw data'
  8. Any auxilary files should be put in the same directory (images, other .html files, etc)
  9. Your URL is (where 'username' is your username. The '~' is a tilde.)
